Devendra’s passion for helping people was developed by his extensive experience of informally counselling, coaching and mentoring colleagues, team members and managers, throughout his long professional career with multinational corporates in international finance. His key learning, that there are usually deeper causes for the surface symptoms that people suffer from, led him to pursue a formal path to psychotherapy and counselling.

Philosophically, Devendra subscribes to Carl Rogers’ maxim of holding his clients in “unconditional positive regard”, believing that all people are unique and capable of change to better their lives and achieve their goals. His approach to his clients is empathetic and non-judgemental. His life in different countries and extensive travels have also given him a wide lens on cultural diversity, enabling him to naturally view all clients equally.

While Devendra is partial to certain therapeutic modalities, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Exposure Therapy and Gottman Method, he is not dogmatic. He prefers to mix and match tools and treatments as required, to best achieve the client’s desired outcomes.

He has been particularly effective in treating issues related to degraded confidence and self-esteem, workplace and career conflicts, various forms of anxiety and relationship difficulties. He has worked with individuals, couples and groups.

Devendra also allocates time for pro-bono counselling with under-privileged clients, mainly recovering addicts and ex-convicts, helping them build strategies to avoid relapse while creating new paths and opportunities for reintegration into society.

Devendra has lived in seven countries (including India, UK and Singapore) and travelled to over ninety. He is an exhibited photographer and published author. His other interests are philanthropy, reading, cooking, geo-politics, diving, riding his motorcycle and driving motor boats. Devendra lives in Singapore.
