What Is Child-Centred Family Counselling?
Child-Centred Family Counselling is a form of therapy which focuses on working with the child keeping systemic principles of family therapy in mind. At Incontact, young children are influenced by their environments, and their caregivers are the most significant factor. We keep the interests and needs of the child in focus but work with the child and their families to meet those needs.
What Are The Benefits Of Child-Centred Family Counselling?
We have found that child-centred family therapy has a long-lasting positive impact on the psychological and developmental needs of the child as caregivers are empowered to bring structural and behavioural changes that can positively impact a child’s emotions & behaviours. We assist in facilitating families to reflect on some of their core beliefs, communication, rituals and behaviours that could influence the child’s problems. We also look at how the child’s personality, behaviours, and possible neurodiversity can impact the caregiver’s responses or parenting styles and the more effective ways to manage and navigate changes for the child.
In our experience, if the child feels good, they behave well. Keeping that philosophy in mind, we focus on facilitating a space where emotional ventilation is possible by creating a nurturing environment for the child. In comparison, focusing on the child’s specific requirements and the problems the family is experiencing. It is also essential to comprehend and empathise with the family’s emotions due to the problems they are experiencing. A parent or caregiver needs to be heard and empathised with for them to be able to facilitate change. This is possible through Child-Cenred Family Counselling.
Wherever necessary, we also work with other professionals to provide holistic care and experience for providing the most effective, evidence-based treatment for the child and the family. When assessments are needed to determine neuro diversities that could influence the child’s problems, we work with child psychologists on assessments.
At Incontact, we are genuinely committed and passionate about bringing change for the child, working with both the child and the family, as it’s most effective to bring change. We don’t isolate the child to believe he is the problem and explore the problem as a family unit.
